Dunraven Waiting Exercise

Streatham is a rich source of diverse people busily going about their business – so waiting at a bus stop is a good location for real interventions.

Giacomo Mancini as Gem in 'Top Boy'

Ronan Bennett, the Director of Top Boy, Channel 4’s 4-part TV drama, said he spotted one of his young actors – Giacomo Mancini, who played Gem – standing at a bus top and asked him to audition.  Bennett must have seen the ‘screen potential’ of this lad despite the apparent mundaneness of the bus stop  scenario…. he saw ‘the marvellous in the mundane’. I think it’s this level of alertness that M. Bergala would like us to emulate.

Interestingly, here’s a short interview with Giacomo/Gem talking about filming in amongst real people along with his trusty dog, Marnie.
